Patient Organisation Support
Abbott has a proud history of working with patient organisations in Australia and New Zealand to help provide valuable information and support to patients and to the people that care for them, such as family and friends. We believe that we can support these organisations in their efforts to help patients understand and manage their disease.
Abbott’s relationships with patient organisations are based on trust, respect and mutual benefit. We aim for transparency and high ethical standards in all of our relationships.
In all of our relationships with patient organisations we are guided by the principles outlined in Working Together – A guide to relationships between health consumer organisations and pharmaceutical companies developed by the Consumers Health Forum of Australia, Medicines Australia and a number of other health consumer organisations.
We learn about issues of concern to patients and together, look for ways to address them in the best possible way. By building sustainable relationships, we also work toward advancing dialogue around healthcare issues and together, can seek ways to ensure optimal delivery of healthcare.
Our support to patient organisations takes the forms of event support, organisational support, patient education and caregiver education.

Event support – An event or program conducted by the Patient Organisation, which is sponsored by Abbott, whether in whole or in part (e.g. paying for a room rental or meal).
Patient Education – An educational program directed at patients, which is sponsored by Abbott, whether in whole or in part.
Organisational Support – Funding for infrastructure or general program (e.g. websites, facilities, etc.).
Caregiver Education – An educational program directed at patient caregivers, which is sponsored by Abbott, whether in whole or in part.
